The Lake Ozark Fire Protection District is seeking qualified candidates for the Deputy Chief of Training position. This role is crucial in overseeing the development, implementation, and management of training and professional development programs for all fire district personnel. The Deputy Chief of Training ensures that staff are well-trained, certified, and prepared to perform their duties safely and effectively. This position collaborates closely with the Fire Chief and other command staff to support the district's mission, vision, and goals. 

The Lake Ozark Fire Protection District is a full-service Advanced Life Support Fire/Rescue EMS agency operating out of 3 stations and a training center. LOFPD maintains a dynamic fleet of apparatus that includes ambulances, engines, ladders, tankers, heavy rescue, and fire/rescue boats. Our firefighters are represented by the International Association of Fire Fighters, Local 3987.

Our primary response area is 42 square miles with 17 miles of lakefront waterway and 5 miles of the Osage river. Annually, LOFPD responds to about 1800 emergency response incidents. Our responses include EMS, Fire, Water Rescue, Technical Rescue and Haz-Mat incidents. We face numerous response challenges that are unique to our jurisdiction and topography. Our waterfront properties are well developed with many structures, both residential and commercial. Many of our commercial properties and resorts present unique response challenges in a unique environment. Our district is also home to many unique, small and large scale events, both on land and water.

Salary and Benefits:

The annual salary range for this position is $107,000 to $123,000. *Depending on Qualifications and Experience*

The minimum qualifications for our Deputy Chief of Training are:

  • Minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience in the fire service, including significant experience in training and professional development.

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Fire Science, Emergency Management, Public Administration, or a related field (preferred).

  • Fire Officer I & Fire Officer II (preferred).

  • Missouri Paramedic License or EMT license (or eligible for reciprocity), or license from an EMS Compact state.

  • NIMS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, and 800 certifications.

  • Missouri Firefighter I and II certifications.

  • CPR/BLS certification.

  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

  • Certification as a Fire Service Instructor I by the State of Missouri or through reciprocity.

  • Fire Service Instructor II certification must be obtained within six months of hire and maintained throughout employment.

  • NFPA 1403 Live Fire Instructor certification must be obtained withing one year of hire. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities for this position include:

  •  Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive training programs for all fire district personnel.

  • Ensure all training programs meet or exceed local, state, and federal standards and regulations.

  • Develop, maintain and evaluate content based on district SOGs and policies, utilizing online learning and direct delivery methods.

  • Coordinate and conduct regular training sessions, drills, and exercises to maintain and improve staff proficiency.

  • Coordinate and conduct mutual aid training programs with Lake area partners.

  • Oversee all staff certification and recertification processes.

  • Develop, maintain and evaluate professional development programs to enhance employee career growth and skills.

  • Identify training needs with other command staff and develop appropriate solutions.

  • Maintain accurate records of all training activities, certifications, and professional development initiatives.

  • Prepare and manage the budget for training and professional development activities.

  • Represent the Lake Ozark Fire Protection District at training and professional development meetings, conferences, and seminars.

  • Oversee training center facilities maintenance and coordinate with district personnel to resolve repairs and maintenance.

  • Prepare specifications for various equipment related to training operations for competitive bidding.

  • Stay current with industry best practices, emerging trends, and new technologies in fire service training and professional development.

  • Represent the Fire District at various organizational meetings and civic events to promote safety, health issues, and community engagement.
